Evolving a brand, for evolving objectives.
If you live in Calgary, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with Phil & Sebastian. They’ve become synonymous with coffee culture here, but have also garnered a sterling reputation that exists around the world. From a stand at the Calgary Farmer’s Market, to five locations in premiere destinations across our city, we’ve been by their side. In fact, Jonathan, one of our founders, named them. Well, actually their mothers named them. Jonathan just had the foresight to use their well-chosen monikers to launch the business.

Initially, Phil & Sebastian needed to appear established. So we used striking, type-focused design to give them a sense of sophistication.

After opening their third location in one of Calgary's busiest malls, people started to question: was this a swanky new coffee brand from the streets of New York?
It became clear that we needed to pivot; ground Phil & Sebastian in Calgary, to convey the local, artisan, and handcrafted sentiments that its founders held so dear.

Their brand, like all great brands, isn’t a static thing. It’s a constantly evolving, moving endeavour that must be tended to and steered. We help them drive traffic to their various locations through ever-changing methods - including an app and a new Shopify site built in late 2017. Whether it’s helping establish their presence at music festivals, or supporting their partnership with local artisan markets, we work as an extension of their marketing team. We establish their marketing objectives and then review our progress towards them each month. This close-knit relationship allows us to be nimble, to respond quickly and to ensure their brand is getting the best our agency has to offer.
